Presidents’ Message

Hello SCEA and welcome back!

I am honored to continue serving as your president.  I am similarly honored to serve as an elementary special education teacher in Franklin Township.  Like all of us, I have many other hats I wear outside of my profession as well.  The 7,500 members of the SCEA have an incredible wealth of experience, talent, and knowledge in countless capacities.  We bring all of this with us into our work with students, and that is why we are the best force for education in the country.

I’d like you to bring your incredible experience, talent, and knowledge to your association, too.  We do so much more than just grievances and negotiations.  We need you to be involved in all of our important work.  This year, the SCEA is creating four brand new member-driven committees to help our members have an even larger positive impact in our world.

  • Equity Committee – justice must be proactive, not reactive.  This committee will set racial, social and economic justice golas for our association and lead us in carrying out these goals.
  • Member Engagement Committee – Everyone likes to be thanked!  This committee will plan dinners, parties and other events to say “thank you” to our members.
  • Communication Committee – Calling all writers!  This committee needs people to write columns for the SCRIBE.  You can write a column for special educators, early career members, science teachers, bus drivers or any other group for whom you have a message.
  • PRIDE Committee – Help us plan your county PRIDE initiatives, including our fantastic annual SCEA Family Fun Fest.

These committees have the potential to tremendously grow our engagement with our communities, our school families and each other, but we can’t do it without you! Click here to get involved with one of these committees.  All SCEA members (including you!) are welcome to join.

THANK YOU for all your incredible work that makes our public schools #1 in the nation.  Have a wonderful school year!

Dan Epstein,

President Somerset County Education Association
